Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) at University of Melbourne, Austrailia
- The IES program in Melbourne, one of Australia's largest and most diverse cities, is associated with one of the world's top 20 educational institutions, the University of Melbourne.
- Students are directly enrolled at the university and may take courses together with Australian and other international students in a wide variety of academic disciplines, including interdisciplinary subject areas, such as: Australian Studies, Asian Studies, American Studies, Environmental Studies, and Women's Studies. In addition, there are field study options in Biology, Botany, Education, Earth Sciences, Environmental Studies, Physics and Zoology. Some of the University's most popular disciplines include: Australian/Aboriginal Cultural Studies, Australian Ecology, Education, History, Media Studies, and Psychology.
- University education in Australia is based on the tutorial system. Typically, students will have two lectures per week in each class and one tutorial, or small group meeting with readings and topics for discussion. Rigorous eight-credit internships are offered in areas relevant to the student's major in History, Political Science, Public Policy, and Sociology, including a limited number of parliamentary internships.
- IES program participants are members of the Student Union, which offers cultural events, activities, and over 100 cultural, interest, and sports clubs. IES offers a field trip to Tasmania and the University of Melbourne provides subsidized excursions to other parts of Australia.
- Housing is provided in apartments shared with other IES students or, on a very limited basis, with Australian students in one of the twelve university residential colleges, where student are expected to participate in college life including social events and sports clubs.
- Eligibility: Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Interest in specializing in a particular subject area, ideally your major.
