Program in European Culture and Society and Institute of Philosophy in Belgium

Primarily for philosophy students or those who wish to work on advanced projects in the social sciences, the Program in European Culture and Society operates in cooperation with the Institute of Philosophy at the Katholieke Universiteit in Leuven, the largest university in Belgium.

The program curriculum is taught in English and is ideal for students with an appropriate background seeking advanced coursework in philosophy, who are eligible to enroll in courses offered by the prestigious Institute of Philosophy. Program participants are fully integrated with Belgian students and international students from throughout Europe. Intensive Dutch language is a required part of the program.

Weekend homestays are part of the program orientation. Field trips are provided to such historic locations as Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent, and to the institutions of the European Community in Brussels. Students may participate in extracurricular activities both at the university and in the city of Leuven, where many opportunities exist in music, museum, and fine arts activities.

Housing is arranged in private student accommodation.

Eligibility: Major or substantial course work in philosophy. Social science students must submit a plan for a specific project supported by their academic adviser.
