The ACM Florence Program takes full advantage of the rich artistic heritage of the city and region, making the Italian Renaissance the center of academic study and giving students the opportunity to view firsthand many influential masterpieces of Western civilization.

Rigorous coursework, involving significant research and analysis, includes frequent visits to museums and monuments as well as lectures by local scholars and art conservation specialists. The program begins with a study of contemporary Italy and four weeks of intensive Italian language, continued throughout the semester at a less intensive level but reinforced through living in a homestay with an Italian family. The semester schedule is made up of three courses – all taught in English - chosen from six options including such offerings as Central Italian Art of the 15th and 16th Centuries, Devotional Art in Renaissance Florence, and Architectural History of Florence. Courses also normally include an option in Italian history and a studio art class, Drawing and the Human Figure.

In addition to the many excursions to museums and monuments, the program features a number of field trips to Rome and Venice, where the group spends several days, and other cities such as Pisa and Siena.

Eligibility: Students with background in art and art history, European history, studio art, modern languages or the humanities are eligible to apply.
