Hamilton College Junior Year in Paris

 

  • Hamilton College in Paris is a very rigorous year-long program for students of exceptional ability. The program begins at the seaside resort of Biarritz, where students live in families while receiving intensive instruction in French language and preparing for the second phase of the program in Paris.
  • The program in Paris combines courses specifically designed for American students offered at the program site with a wide selection of courses from such institutions as the University of Paris III, the Institut d'Etudes Politiques, the Faculte Libre de Droit et d'Economie, the Institut d'Etudes Economiques et Sociales, the Institut Catholique, and the Ecole du Louvre. Particular emphasis is placed on French language, literature, performing and studio arts, political science, history, and economics.
  • All classes are taught by French faculty with additional discussion sessions and tutorial assistance organized by Hamilton College. Students may opt to study for a number of certificates and diplomas offered by Parisian institutions in the fields of French language, civilization, literature and art. Majors in political science, history, or economics may qualify for a challenging course of study at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques leading to the International Program Diploma.
  • Special opportunities include a theatre course involving regular attendance at theatrical productions, student teaching internships in Parisian secondary schools and governmental agencies, and the option of an independent study in the second semester. Field trips to various parts of France are organized throught the year.
  • Students are housed in homestays in French homes.
  • Eligibility: Minimum 3.0 GPA. Fifth-semester level in French. Approval by the Off-Campus Study Board for a full-year off campus.
