The American University in Cairo (AUC)
- Founded in 1919, the AUC welcomes over 200 study-abroad students each semester, who are fully integrated into the academic and student life of the institution.
- Teaching primarily in English, AUC is fully accredited in both Egypt and the United States and is recognized as one of the premier institutions of higher Education in The Middle East. Program participants study together with full-time students from Egypt and more than seventy other countries in classes offered by a highly international faculty in a wide range of disciplines, including Arabic as a foreign language, which is required.
- The AUC Arabic Language Institute maintains the largest corps of full-time professional Arabic language teachers in the world and offers a variety of intensive programs in Modern Standard and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic at all levels: elementary, intermediate, and advanced.
- A comprehensive university with a liberal arts core curriculum, AUC provides the possibility of coursework in virtually all subject areas, as well as interdisciplinary concentrations such as Arab Culture and History, Arab Society, Egyptology, Islamic Civilization, Islamic Art and Architecture, Politics of the Middle East, and Economic Development. Courses are also available in the sciences, including Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science.
- In addition to group travel opportunities provided by the university and student organizations, field trips to major historical sites and monuments are a regular part of many courses.
- Housing is provided in university accommodation with Egyptian or international student roommates.
- Eligibility: Minimum GPA: 2.75. Admission is competitive. Arabic language and coursework related to the Middle East highly recommended.
