CHICAGO: Arts Program (ACM)

The ACM Chicago Arts Program provides an opportunity to spend a semester immersed in the art scene of Chicago for students interested in the performing, media, literary and visual arts. The program has four components. The first is a internship, in which participants gain valuable experience by working in a professional arts environment in such areas as stage design, photography, dance studios, literary magazines, drama workshops, music education and the Art Institute of Chicago. The second component is the Core Course, combining classroom study of art history, theory, and criticism in the context of Chicago with field experience of plays, concerts, poetry readings, performance events, video screenings, and more. The third component involves an independent study project selected by the student focusing on a creative project, scholarly inquiry or combination of both. Modest stipends are provided for supplies, events, classes and workshops that will contribute to project goals. The fourth and final part of the program, the Special Topics Course, offers a choice from two or three topics in various areas of the arts with a creative or scholarly focus. Students live shared accommodation in furnished studio apartments. Eligibility: Introductory history course in an arts discipline recommended. Coursework related to prospective internship recommended.
