The College and the Grinnell Police Department (GPD) have a cooperative relationship. Steve Briscoe, campus safety and security director, is in regular contact with the Grinnell police chief and his staff. In addition, the Vice-President for Student Affairs Houston Dougharty and Monica Chavez-Silva, director of community enhancement and engagement, have frequent contact with the GPD. Each semester, the Student Government Association and the campus safety committee host a “Know Your Rights” panel that typically includes the Grinnell police chief, the dean of students, the campus safety and security director, the county attorney, and other local and campus officials, in order to help clarify issues of policy, practice, and jurisdiction.
