The discussion about our fiscal challenges isn’t new. President Kington began talking with alumni and the campus community about the issues in 2011, his inaugural year, and the conversation continues.
- Fall 2011: “Choosing Grinnell's Future” published in The Grinnell Magazine.
- Late 2011 and early 2012: “Choosing Grinnell’s Future” alumni outreach by President Raynard Kington: speech to alumni in 32 cities worldwide.
- June 2012: Board of Trustees meet in Chicago, charge President Kington with developing a set of strategies to ensure Grinnell’s financial future—including a discussion of options related to student body composition—at their October meeting and recommendations for their review and vote in February 2013.
- Summer 2012: Beginning of in-depth meetings with the faculty’s Committee on Admission and Financial Aid (CAFA) and the faculty as a whole.
- September 24 & 27: Town Hall meetings with the campus community—students, faculty and staff—with presentations by Vice President for Finance Karen Voss and Vice President for Enrollment Joe Bagnoli, Jr., about the College’s finances and some of the options available to protect our commitment to our core values.
- October 4: During the Fall 2012 Alumni Council and Volunteer Weekend, Voss and Bagnoli present to the Alumni Council, class agents, class fund directors, and class solicitors. Their presentations provide the same information shared in the Town Hall meetings.
- October 12: Website launched for information-sharing and community participation.
- October 12–13: President Kington leads a discussion of the core issues with Grinnell’s Board of Trustees. Discussion to include a summary of themes that have emerged from the community’s initial comments.
- October 22: Added narrated slideshow and additional resources.
- November 16: Alumni Council requested feedback in a letter to the alumni.
- Early December: The College’s faculty make recommendations to President Kington about the College’s future financial aid policies.
- Mid-December: President Kington previews to the Trustees his recommendations for strengthening our long-term financial health.
- February: The Grinnell Board of Trustees deliberates and votes on a course of action.
- Ongoing: Rigorously assess policies and analyze results annually, adjusting as necessary to ensure the College's financial health and commitment to our values.
