Russell G. Allen ’68 2000

Alt text Mr. Allen graduated from Grinnell College in 1968 with a B.A. in mathematics. While at the College, he was active in Air Force ROTC, swimming, and student government and justice programs. He continued his education at Stanford University, where he received a law degree in 1971, was a member of the board of editors of the Stanford Law Review, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He served on active duty as a government contract lawyer assigned to the intercontinental ballistic missile and strategic high altitude reconnaissance programs from 1971-75. From 1975-2001, he was a trusts, estates, and transfer tax specialist with O'Melveny & Myers of Newport Beach, California-a large international law firm. His practice included both planning and contested matters, and he has argued appellate matters before the California and U.S. Supreme Courts. Mr. Allen retired as an active O'Melveny partner in 2001 and joined the J.P. Morgan Private Bank as a wealth adviser for its clients. In 2004, Mr. Allen resumed working for a small group of clients in Orange County, California as a sole practitioner. He is a certified specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law (by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization) and a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He has been an active speaker in continuing education programs for other lawyers.
