Mr. Allen graduated from Grinnell College in 1968 with a B.A. in
mathematics. While at the College, he was active in Air Force ROTC,
swimming, and student government and justice programs. He continued his
education at Stanford University, where he received a law degree in 1971,
was a member of the board of editors of the Stanford Law Review, and was
elected to the Order of the Coif. He served on active duty as a government
contract lawyer assigned to the intercontinental ballistic missile and
strategic high altitude reconnaissance programs from 1971-75. From
1975-2001, he was a trusts, estates, and transfer tax specialist with
O'Melveny & Myers of Newport Beach, California-a large international law
firm. His practice included both planning and contested matters, and he has
argued appellate matters before the California and U.S. Supreme Courts.
Mr. Allen retired as an active O'Melveny partner in 2001 and joined the J.P. Morgan Private Bank as a
wealth adviser for its clients. In 2004, Mr. Allen resumed working for a
small group of clients in Orange County, California as a sole practitioner.
He is a certified specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law (by
the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization) and a fellow of
the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He has been an active
speaker in continuing education programs for other lawyers.
