Mr. Holtze founded his first company, Sioux Contractors, in 1976.
As president of that company, which was owned jointly with his father and two uncles,
he performed commercial contracting in northwest Iowa until 1982.
That year, Mr. Holtze founded and became president of Holtze Brothers
Construction Company in Denver, which developed the Holtze Executive
Village in 1989. He currently is chairman and sole owner of the Magnolia
Hotel Company, a hotel development and management company with properties
in historic buildings in downtown Denver, Dallas, and Houston.
He graduated from Grinnell College in 1968 with a degree in physics and a
B.S. in civil engineering from Columbia University.
The following year he received an M.S. in civil engineering from Columbia,
where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honorary fraternity.
He is married to Grinnell alumna Elizabeth Alexander Holtze '68, Ph.D.,
a professor of English at a Denver college. They have three grown children and
one grandchild.
Mr. Holtze enjoys his business immensely, but also loves travel and fishing.
He is currently finishing his second three-year term on the Colorado Symphony
Association, serving as its treasurer, and has recently begun serving on the
HealthOne Alliance Foundation board of trustees.
