                                                              INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPORTING GRADES

Submitting grades: All instructors are expected to submit their grades on-line via Pioneer Web. Go to the "Course Areas & Academic Info" tab of Pioneer Web (available via the Grinnell's home page), and click on 'Enter final grades' which is highlighted in blue. Call the Registrar's Office if you have any questions or problems (x3450).

                                                                                Submitting Grades

          *    Every student must receive a valid grade (i.e. Grinnell does not have a C- grade. A list of valid grades is listed
below). Any grade list discrepancies (i.e. missing student names or unknown students) should be reported to
               the Registrar's Office (x3450) immediately.

          *    A "D/F" Form must be submitted for each student who will be receiving either a D or F in your class. Forms are
available at http://www.grinnell.edu/offices/registrar/faculty/includes/DandFGradeForm.doc or by calling the
               Registrar's Office at x3450.

          *    If you plan to be away from campus when grades are due, please let the Registrar's Office know in advance.

                                                                 GRINNELL COLLEGE GRADING POLICY

Special grades: The following grades may not be used without prior approval from the Registrar, and in most cases, these grades have already been entered onto the grade list by the Registrar: I (Incomplete), NGR (No Grade Reported), W (Withdrawn), and AU (audit). IMPORTANT: NGR grades are reserved for pending academic honesty cases only. I (incomplete) grades are only allowed if an approved Incomplete Request Form is on file in the Registrar's Office. If you have not signed an Incomplete Request Form for the student, then an extension is not allowed, and you must submit a grade regardless of any agreement you made with the student.

S/D/F Grades. If a course is offered only on the Satisfactory/D/F basis or the individual student has elected to take the course on that basis, you may either enter an S or the actual grade received. The Registrar's grading program will automatically convert the letter grade to S, D, or F. A student must earn a grade of C or better in order to receive an S grade for the course.
