Procedures for Requesting Transcripts for Former Students



All transcript requests from former students and alumni must be made in writing. The Office of the Registrar will accept transcript requests via fax (641-269-4937) or email requests with a copy of the signed form in pdf format. We have a printable request form online in pdf format. In compliance with the Family Education and Privacy Act of 1974, a signature, authorizing release of the transcript is required. All transcripts are free of charge. Please contact the Registrar's Office by calling 641-269-3450 or e-mail Mary Wells (wells@grinnell.edu) if you have questions regarding a request for a transcript.

Transcript limit policy:
Unlimited number of transcripts may be requested when specific individual addresses are provided.
Former Students and Alumni: 15 transcripts may be requested per address per month.
Your written request must contain the following information:

  • Name (include all former names)
  • Social Security Number
  • Class Year or years of attendance
  • Date of Birth
  • Address(es) of where transcripts should be mailed
  • Current address and phone number
  • An original signature (computer generated signatures are not accepted)

For your convenience, we have added an online printable transcript request form in pdf format.

Mail or fax (641-269-4937) your request to:

NORMAL processing time is 2 or 3 working days after receiving the request. During peak work times or holiday breaks this processing time may be extended. Questions concerning transcripts should be directed to Mary Wells (wells@grinnell.edu)


Overnight Transcript Service

The process for overnight transcript service will be as follows:

1) A flat fee for domestic overnight transcripts service will be $30.00 per package. International overnight service will be processed and charged on an "as requested" basis.
2) Credit-card information including card type (VISA, MasterCard, etc.), number, expiration date, cvv number and phone number must be provided to the Registrar's Office with the written transcript request.
3) Please provide a telephone number of the recipient.
4) When the Treasurer's Office has confirmed to the Registrar's Office that the credit card charge was successful the transcript will be released. NO TRANSCRIPTS CAN BE EXPRESSED WITHOUT CONFIRMATION OF THE CREDIT CARD CHARGE.
5) Please remember that overnight transcript service is not a guarantee of same-day transcript service.
