Russian Language House

Five language houses have existed since the 1993-94 academic year. These houses are associated with their academic department. The purpose of the language house program is to provide students who speak or are learning to speak another language with an environment that is conducive to learning the language, culture, and customs of the country/countries of the language.

Language houses supported by academic departments are:

  • 1019 Park Street (French House)
    3 singles, 3 doubles = 9 students + 1 Language Asst.
  • 1217 Park Street (Russian House)
    3 singles, 2 doubles = 7 students + 1 Language Asst.
  • 1221 Park Street (German House)
    1 single, 3 doubles = 7 students + 1 Language Asst.
  • 1227 Park Street (Chinese House)
    3 singles, 3 doubles = 9 students
  • 1316 Park Street (Spanish House)
    3 singles, 4 doubles = 11 students + 1 Language Asst.

 


 

GENERAL INFORMATION

Each house has a Student House Coordinator and Faculty Advisor; some houses also have a Language Assistant. The House Coordinator and Language Assistant live in the house. It is the responsibility of the academic department and the House Coordinator to fill each space/room within the house. Any vacancies that occur during the summer or academic year not filled by the academic department or House Coordinator may be filled by the Residence Life Office. 

It is the responsibility of the House Coordinator to work with the Faculty Advisor to fill all rooms/spaces within the house. House Coordinators must:

  • ATTEND MANDATORY STUDENT STAFF TRAINING IN AUGUST AND JANUARY.
  •  Complete and return the Language House Packet to the Residence Life Office by the due date.  This includes a completed house roster, room assignments for the fall and spring term, and signed House Contracts from each house member.
  • Act as representative and contact person for the house.
  • Attend regular individual meetings and maintain regular contact with their Residence Life Coordinator.
  • Attend In-Services as offered.
  • Be knowledgeable of College services, resources, regulations, and federal or state laws as they apply to College-owned houses.
  • Provide Door Decs to welcome residents to house at the beginning of each semester.

2012 DEADLINES:

Tuesday, February 14 Language House Packets sent via campus mail to faculty reps.
12 noon Friday, April 6 House Packets due (including signed contracts and room assignments)
