Facilities Management Building
parking along the drive behind Nollen House.
Briscoe brought up to the committee that he has received a
number of complaints concerning vehicle parking in the
drive behind the Nollen House. Chief Sittig of the
Grinnell PD will look into doing something about this sense
this is city property. Maybe no parking signs can be
erected at the location or the curb painted.
Fine Arts Building Drive No signs in drive.
Briscoe brought up that he has received complaints that
there is no signs in the Fine Arts Building circle drive
area to indicate that you cannot park at the location.
Facilities Management will be contacted concerning placing
signs in the drive.
Parking on sidewalks, grass areas beginning of school.
Briscoe brought up that he has received complaints
concerning people parking on the sidewalks and grass areas
of the college at the beginning of the school year.
The committee decided that this is a universal problem at
numerous colleges across the country. They felt this is
part of the college process. Briscoe stated that his staff
or lax during this time to accommodate the move in but they
try to enforce the areas at other times.
Parking along Park Street, 24 hour zone complaints
Briscoe is getting complaints concerning vehicle being
parked along Park Street overtime in the 24 hour zone.
The committee expressed concern that if we crack down on
the parking on the street at that location that vehicles
will move to other neighborhood streets. It was suggested
that maybe we can tow the cars that stay to long on the
street. The police department stated that they have a full
tow lot now and some of the cars have been on the pd lot
for a year. There was concern that the people parked on
the street really have no where to go if the city starts
cracking down on vehicles parked overtime on the street at
that location. Briscoe stated that there is parking for
people up at the football field lot. The committee
thought there should probably be some type of incentive for
people to park up at the lot. Briscoe stated there is
already an incentive, the lot is free. The committee
talked about alternate day park on each side of Park
Street. There was concern that vehicles would stay to long
at each location on the street.
Diagonal Parking on Park Street.
It was brought up that maybe we can look into head in
parking on Park Street like what's on East Street. The
committee discussed that this has been brought up before.
students confused about the parking on Park Street
It was brought up that students are confused about the
parking signs on Park Street. The committee felt the sign
language needs to be cleaned up. The committee felt that
maybe the signs should read, " No Parking midnight-4am".
parking on 10th Avenue for Dinning Services Employees.
It was brought up that students are still parking in the
staff spots located on 10th Avenue across from the new Power
Plant. These spots were reassigned last year for
faculty/staff only. The areas is really used for Dinning
Services employees that work at Cowles Dinning Hall. The
committee felt that maybe new language could be added to
the signs stating, "faculty/staff Parking 5:30am-10pm"
Visitors parking area behind Windsor House being turned into Faculty/Staff parking.
The committee decided that this may not be a good ideal
since this is the only visitor parking area for the Art
Gallery.
Vacate grass lot at the corner of Park/5th being turned into a parking lot.
The committee felt that this lot should be looked at for a
parking lot.
Church Parking Lot at the corner of 6th/State Street.
The committee felt that we could approach the Church about
the college using the lot during the week for parking.
Maybe renting spaces from them.
New Residence Hall Buildings on East Street.
It was brought up that there is concern that this area is
going to force parking out onto the city streets since
there is no parking designed for the residence halls.
New Campus Center Parking Concerns.
It was brought up that there is a concern that there is no
parking designed for the New Campus Center. This is going
to force parking out onto the city streets.
Additional Parking lot in the PEC Area.
It was brought up that the campus may consider expanding
the PEC parking lot to south of the PEC along the Railroad
tracks area.
Mears Visitors Lot
It was brought up that maybe this area could be turned into
a Faculty/Staff parking area.
Children Crossing sign behind the Pre-School in the Alley.
It was brought up that the Pre-School is inquiring about
possibly putting up children Crossing signs in the alley.
This will alert people that children are in the area and
may be crossing the alley. These signs would be put at
each end of the alley. Briscoe will be talking with the
city Pd on this and a letter may have to be sent to the
city Public Safety Committee concerning this.
Football Field Parking
The committee talked about maybe a carport being
constructed in the football field area for long term
parking vehicles. In addition the committee talked a
little about the possibility of a parking garage being
constructed on campus somewhere.
