- 65 employees work at Noyce Science Center
- 84 f/s spaces in the Darby lot
- spring 2004 the Darby Lot goes away
- letter from Don Smith concerning Mears lot. 8 members of faculty at Mears don't want the lot expanded.
- fall 2006 the Campus Center Opens and there will be 65-70 employees trying to park in Central Campus. There will become a parking crunch at that time.
- Christoper Mckee talked about the college possibly using the Church lot across the street from the library for parking. He thinks there is a need for more visitors spots for the libray.
- 64 spaces in the new 10th Avenue lot at the location across from the old fm building should probably be spots for students living at the New Residence Halls.
- it was brought up that there should probably be an off site parking area for students who have cars and don't use them.
- someone suggested that there should be head end parking on 8th Street by the new Residence Halls. It was decided that this could not be done because of city zoning ordinance requirements.
- suggested that people living within a couple of blocks should probably be expected to walk to campus.
- suggested that a way to limit parking was charging differential parking pay rates to campus.
- suggested that we should charge more for close in parking on campus and less for outer peremiter parking
- parking effects a large number of people and peoples lives. The need for parking spaces should keep this in mind along with the need for green space on campus.
- people brought up about charging everyone parking fees to park.
- faculty have flexibility in scheduling and staff are worried having to circle the campus for spaces to park and losing lunch hour time.
- people are use to driving into work to park and this won't change.
- someone suggested that differential fee's for parking discriminates.
- parking fees generate revenue and this revenue can be put into financial aid
- someone suggested that faculty should park further out from campus and staff should be able to park closer.
- we need to provide parking spaces for the campus and there was a feeling that charging staff fee's would be viewed as a down fall.
- it was discussed about the campus possibly building an underground parking facility. This would be a problem due to the cost and water table problems.
- people felt there was a need for close in parking to the campus.
- the new parking lot plans have gone to the parking committee.
- there is a need for high school student parking on campus.
- it was discussed about bicycle pathways for the campus. The city of Grinnell has a bicycle committee to look at this.
- it was discussed that to make lots look less unattractive there should be burms along the lots.
- it was felt that riding and driving to work is climate driven.
- it was discussed that the campus needs bicycle covered racks distributed throughout the campus
- parking committee can look at this or a group of people on campus interested in riding bicycles to campus.
- more talk about a parking garage above and below ground. It was mentioned that the Cooper lot could be a site.
- it was suggested that when we look at the locations of lot we should look at also how people should get to these buildings.
- questions came up about how it was decided as to where the new parking lots will go. Architects and other made suggestions concerning this and the campus parking committee has viewed the plans.
- was a concern that there be visitor parking for the bookstore and fine arts in close vicinity.
- the Campus Parking Committee should look at how to designate different parking spaces and who parks in the different new lots if parking plans approved.
April 23, 2003 there will be another noon open parking forum at the Noyce Science Building
