Two post-graduate Fellowship opportunities are being offered with the Desert Research Foundation of Namibia (DRFN) for Grinnell's current fourth year students, beginning in June 2009. The Desert Research Foundation of Namibia is a non-governmental organization, active since 1963 in implementing environmental research and education projects throughout Namibia. As such, it offers a unique opportunity to Grinnell students interested in pursuing educational opportunities incorporating social commitment and environmental interests. These opportunities are meant to enrich the educational experience of selected students, as well as provide a service to the host organization.
Full job descriptions for both fellows are available here.
The DRFN is an internationally known and respected Namibian research organization, with activities ranging from basic ecological research to community needs assessment, environmental education, and policy formulation. The Foundation's mission is to create and further awareness and understanding of dryland environments around the globe, and to develop the capacity, skills, and knowledge to manage them appropriately. The Foundation takes an interdisciplinary approach to this challenge, integrating ecological, economic, and social considerations. Accordingly, we anticipate that these opportunities would be of interest to students from all divisions of the College, and particularly to those students completing interdisciplinary concentrations such as Environmental Studies, Global Development Studies, and Technology Studies.
