Drake University’s Teach in China Program offers recent graduates from any academic background with any (or no) international or teaching experience or knowledge of Chinese the opportunity to live and work in China for a year. Twenty-five graduates will be placed to teach primarily English at either the secondary or university level in one of Drake’s eight (8) partner institutions found in five (5) cities across China.

Drake's Teach in China program is open to graduates of other institutions. However, program admission preference is given to Drake students and alumni. Please contact Drake Teach in China administrators with questions about the application, placement and training process.

Application Requirements: 
  • Applicants must be native speakers of English or have developed near-native proficiency in English and hold a passport from a country where English is widely considered a dominant language.
Benefits: 

In return for teaching an average of 14-16 hours per week, program teachers will receive:

  • A salary of 3,500 - 4,000 RMB per month (approximately $520-$600)
  • Private, furnished housing
  • Emergency medical insurance
  • Reimbursement for airfare to and from China*
  • An additional travel allowance of 1,100 Yuan (approximately $160)

*Except for placements in Guilin.
