The Stonewall Resource Center is staffed by a student management team:

Manager: Elliot Karl '12

Elliot Karl is a fourth-year GWSS/Economics major from Downers Grove, IL—a southwestern suburb of Chicago. After coming to (and out at) Grinnell College, his interest in queer politics/activism grew significantly as he began taking GWSS courses and participating in various SRC-based groups and activities. As this year’s SRC Manager, Elliot will assist other staff members in operating the SRC, Library as well as many programming events throughout the school year. He hopes to promote a safe and open living environment for all members of Grinnell's diverse community through engaging other student organizations, athletic teams, academic departments and community projects. When he's not working or chilling at the SRC, Elliot likes to spend his time listening to music, hanging with his friends and boyfriend, writing (but never finishing) short stories, painting, making crayon-wax art and bicycling. He is looking forward to a great semester of queer outreach and activism on campus.

Programming Coordinator: Jarrett Joubert '12

Jarrett Joubert was born and raised in Houston, TX and was led to attend a magnet high school for the health professions. Wanting to be a commercial airline pilot up until that point, a twist of fate allowed Jarrett to fall in love with the field of medicine and he has since decided to dedicate his life to better the overall well-being of all individuals, particularly those who have historically not been able to access proper health care. A love of foreign languages led Jarrett to major in French while also working to fulfill course requirements for medical school. After learning more about social justice and the value of activism, Jarrett's interest in serving the LGBTQ and allied community grew after realizing how much that same community had done for him over the course of his time at Grinnell. In his role as program coordinator Jarrett is especially excited to collaborate with other groups on campus and throw events where EVERYONE can enjoy themselves all the while learning more about issues as they pertain to LGBTQ-identified persons. In his free and even not-so-free time Jarrett enjoys film and digital photography, watching movies, cookin, and spending quality time with his friends and meeting new people.

 Library Coordinator: Kate Loftur-Thun '14

Kate Loftur-Thun is a second-year Theatre major from Falls Church, Virginia, outside of D.C. Though initially interested more in the artistic and cultural elements of queer experience rather than the political, she got more involved with the GLBTQ community on campus after a homophobic hate crime in the fall semester of her first year. As this year’s Library Coordinator for the Stonewall Resource Center, she will work to maintain and update the SRC’s library while continuing the reorganization process that began last semester, as well as overseeing the SRC Monitors. When her nose is not buried in her books or blogs, Kate also enjoys creating theatre, listening to far too much music, writing a million unfinished stories, cooing over other people’s cats, and navigating being a public transportation user in the middle of rural Iowa.

Monitors

Volunteer monitors work in the SRC during open hours. Monitors can help you check out books and videos, and are generally good, friendly people.
