While reading the book, Power Sleep, I came across some of the side effects of lack of sleep and one part of this made me think about how hard it is to be a college student who is lacking in sleep. One result in the lack of sleep is reduced productivity which includes:
Reduced ability to concentrate
Reduced ability to remember
Reduced ability to handle complex tasks
Reduced ability to think logically
Reduced ability to assimilate and analyze new information
Reduced ability to think critically
Reduced decision-making skills
Reduced vocabulary and communication skills
Reduced creativity
All these skills are important for test and projects, so is pulling an all nighter or getting the proper amount of sleep (6-10 hours depending on the individual) more productive? All the information is from the book, Power Sleep, by Dr. James B. Maas, a great book to read during break if you're looking for some ideas about how to get more and/or better sleep as well as the consequences of not sleeping enough.
