- Keep pen and paper by your bed in case you need them.
- Use odd time (walking to class, waiting in line) productively.
- Keep your desk clear of papers that you don't need that day (otherwise, you'll want to go through them even though you know that you don't need them).
- Take a time survey to better understand where your time is going and how you could restructure it.
- Set realistic goals daily, weekly, and quarterly.
- Turn the ringer off on the phone when necessary.
- When chatting on the phone during a study break, stand up and stretch to get blood flowing.
- Do not hesitate to seek help from others.
- Realize that personal problems won't go away if you ignore them - resolve them first if possible.
- Play! It makes your brain happier.
- Plan pleasant tasks between difficult ones as a reward.
- Discard junk mail - don't waste time reading it.
- Try to handle email, mail, and messages as you get them rather than coming back to them later.
- Learn to say "no" - take care of yourself first and don't get overcommitted.
- Decide how you'll go about a task before trying to accomplish it - an organized approach means less time getting organized as you go.
- Don't spend hours socializing at meals, but don't purposely avoid socializing because you have to study (try to find a good, healthy balance).
- Leave 20% of your time unscheduled for emergencies/ unexpected events.
- Don't waste time worrying - do something about it or don't worry about it.
- Eat a balanced diet, get enough sleep and exercise.
- Turn off the music when studying - the majority of people concentrate better without it.
- Use this scheduling form to schedule out your days and see where your time is going, or to lay out how you're going to use your time over the week (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader ).
