OFF-CAMPUS STUDY

Each year, large numbers of Grinnell students, representing around 60% of every graduating class, are accepted into a wide range of off-campus study programs both abroad and elsewhere in the United States. In addition to the nearly 90 programs, in more than 30 countries, operated by partner institutions, the College offers two branch-campus options, Grinnell-in-London and Grinnell-in-Washington D.C. Participation is open to all qualified students, of at least third-year standing, regardless of major, and options exist in virtually all subject areas.

Off-Campus Study (OCS) is an opportunity for students to broaden their liberal education and enhance their major, concentration, or other area of academic interest. Although Grinnell recognizes that just living and studying in a new and challenging environment is a valuable learning experience in itself, the college believes that the opportunity is even more enriching if well integrated into the four-year course plan. During the application process, great emphasis is placed on selecting a program that is compatible with academic goals, and students work together closely with academic advisers, program advisers and the OCS Office to choose one that supplements and enhances their Grinnell education.

The OCS website provides detailed information on off-campus programs as well as information about applying, including the Off-Campus Study Handbook and Application for Grinnell College Approval to Study Off Campus. Applications for off-campus study are due in mid-December of the academic year preceding the year when the students intend to study off campus.
