Social Justice at Grinnell

Social Justice at Grinnell provides many opportunities to be active in the community and to act towards positive social change. The opportunities listed below are active groups and programs on campus that are committed towards service and hope to engage students, faculty, and the community in social justice.

The Social Justice Action Group is committed to advocating for service and justice in the community. This group actively strengthens the relationship between the college and the community while examing issues on a global scale. The Social Justice Action Group (SJAG) provides food every Tuesday at 5:45pm for the Community Meal at Davis Elementary. This meal is free of charge and works to provide a hot meal and build community in Grinnell. The Social Justice Prize honors individuals who are committed to positive social change and who have made extraordinary efforts in their fields. Each prize is $100,000 which is split between the prize winner(s) and the winner's area of social justice. This award marks Grinnell's pride in advocating for positive social change and a future commitment to service. Please see the website linked above or contact the CRSSJ to answer any questions.

Community Service at Grinnell is a vibrant and active branch of the college. From volunteering to work study, community service engages students as responsible and socially active members of a wider world. The Community Service Office serves to connect students and staff to various resources and offers a wide array of opportunities. Stamps for food is a program run through the CRSSJ that collects used stamps and sends them to Marion Mission Storehouse. This mission sells stamps and the proceeds are used to buy food, clothing, and medicine for those in need. Please consider putting your used stamps in a marked box provided in the mail room in the JRC. For more information, call ext. 4981.
