In April 2008, the Mental Health Services Review Committee invited two professionals in the field to conduct a review of student mental health services at Grinnell. They provided the Committee with a report of their findings at the end of summer 2008. These recommendations were incorporated into the final Committee recommendations.

Donald Marshall, Ph.D., Associate Dean of Students, University of Puget Sound (UPS). Formerly Director & Chief Psychologist in Counseling, Health & Wellness Services at UPS since 1987. Dr. Marshall earned his B.S. in psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University; M.A. in Higher Education from The Ohio State University, and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The Ohio State University. Dr. Marshall has run his own private practice since 1991, and he has been a faculty member at Washington School of Professional Psychology, Seattle, WA, and at the School of Education, University of Puget Sound. He has authored and co-authored numerous articles and given professional presentations on a variety of topics with a specialty in assessing and managing suicide risk and suicide prevention.

Terry W. Mason, Ph.D., Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Student Counseling Services, Iowa State University. He has served in this capacity since 1993. While at Iowa State, he has also served as the Interim Director of the Memorial Union, Interim Director of International Education Services and Interim Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. Dr. Mason earned his B.A. in Psychology and Biology from Cornell College and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas Tech University. He has authored or co-authored numerous articles including the impact of counseling on student retention; and he has given over 100 presentations at national, regional and local professional conferences. Dr. Mason is currently the Past President of the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS), having served as President from 2006 to 2007.
