Harriett is a licensed psychologist and a Grinnell alum. She earned her doctorate at the University of Kansas. Harriett has specialized background and training in working with college students and has been treating Grinnell College students for 16 years. Harriett also specializes in working with the LGBTQIA community, the treatment of eating disorders, and in providing group psychotherapy. Her approach to therapy is holistic and eclectic and she is collaborative, flexible, and creative in her work with clients. Some theories and techniques that Harriett frequently uses include humanistic, family systems, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral approaches. Harriett greatly values the opportunity to assist students in exploring their identities and values; bolstering their self-care and coping skills; and growing in the ways they wish to grow. Harriett views therapy as a partnership between the student and herself in which they collaborate to support the student in achieving the student’s goals for therapy.
