After-Hours Nursing Consultation

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHACS) is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, when the college is in session.  If you have an urgent medical concern during these hours, please contact us at x3230 (641/269-3230 off campus).

Emergencies

If you believe you are having (or another student is having) a medical emergency, call Campus Safety and Security at x4600 (641/269-4600 off campus).

Examples of medical emergencies include:

     loss of consciousness

     severe bleeding

     severe pain

These are only examples.  If you believe the situation is a medical emergency, call for help immediately.

At other times, if you think you might be having a medical emergency but you are not sure, you may call our after-hours medical consultation service.

To reach the service, call x3230 (641/269-3230 off campus) and follow the message instructions.

When you call the service, you will speak with a health consultant who will review your symptoms with you and make recommendations as to the type and timing of treatment you should pursue.

If you are quite sure that you are not having a medical emergency, we ask that you take reasonable measures to take care of yourself;  consult with an RLC, if that would be helpful;  and/or call SHACS at the next opportunity to speak with one of our nurses.
