Five language houses have existed since the 1993-94 academic year. These houses are associated with their academic department. The purpose of the language house program is to provide students who speak or are learning to speak another language with an environment that is conducive to learning the language, culture, and customs of the country/countries of the language.

Language houses supported by academic departments are:

Chinese House, 1227 Park Street
9 spaces (3 doubles and 3 singles)

Russian House, 1217 Park Street
8 spaces (2 doubles and 4 singles)

German House, 1221 Park Street
7 spaces (2 doubles and 3 singles)

Spanish House, 1316 Park Street
12 spaces (4 doubles and 4 singles)

French House, 1130 East Street
10 spaces (3 doubles and 4 singles)

Each house will have a House Coordinator and a faculty advisor. Some houses also have a Language Assistant. The House Coordinator and Language Assistant live in the house. It is the responsibility of the academic department and the House Coordinator to fill the house. Any vacancies not filled by the academic department or House Coordinator within one week may be filled by Student Affairs. The cost of any vacancy may be divided equally among the remaining occupants.

It is the responsibility of the House Coordinator to work with the Faculty Representative to fill all rooms/spaces within the house. House Coordinators must:

• Submit a completed House Contract for each student and alternate listed on the House Roster. Students who agree to reside within a Langauge House MAY NOT apply for any other special housing draws, participate in Room Draw, and are automatically removed from off-campus non-College-owned housing (if applicable).
• Return the completed Langauge House floor chart by the date indicated on the packet.
• Serve as the contact person between the House and Student Affairs during the academic year.
