Grinnell College provides specific housing accommodations for:
- Transgender or transitioning students.
- Students with medical or psychological conditions and/or disabilities.
- Transgender and transitioning students should contact the Residence Life Office regarding housing options for living situations with additional privacy or for housing options / placement prior to regular Room Draw.
- Students requesting accommodations for medical or psychological reasons should provide medical documentation to the Housing Office stating the nature of the condition or disability, the needed accommodation, and why this accommodation is necessary.
Students requesting air conditioning due to allergies and/or asthma should:
- Draw into a room in an air conditioned residence hall through the regular room draw process. These halls include Norris Hall, Rathje Hall, Rose Hall, Hannibal Kershaw Hall, and Lazier Hall. Students not able to draw into air conditioned rooms and new students will need to follow step b.
- Provide medical documentation to the Housing Office stating the nature of the condition, specify the needed accommodation, and state why this accommodation is necessary. With appropriate documentation, the student will be allowed to use a stand-alone air conditioner provided at their own expense. Window air condition units are not allowed in student rooms as they damage the window frames.
- Requests DO NOT carry over and must be submitted each year. Requests must be received by the Residence Life Office by April 1.
