Hanna consults daily with students about academic challenges and personal problems, including cultural adaptation due to transition process. She offers pro-active coaching to international students, first-year, first-generation students to help them develop better study/learning skills, time management skills and better communication skills between faculty and the rest of campus community. Hanna finds working with Grinnell ‘s students intellectually stimulating and highly rewarding.

A native of Poland, Hanna has taught Russian and Polish at The Ohio State University, Grinnell College and University of Iowa. She studied and worked in Poland, Russia, Bulgaria and Czech Republic. She came to Grinnell in 1993 as Russian Language Instructor, and joined the Division of Student Affairs in 1999 as Academic Advising Counselor. In 2007, she joined the Office of International Student Affairs as an Acadmic and International Counselor. When not in the office, she spends her time traveling with her sons, creating interesting meals at home, enjoying live jazz concerts, theater, Netflix and NPR. Hanna is also very passionate about road cycling, spinning, white water kayaking and rowing.
