Due Aug. 1: IPOP Arrival Confirmation '12
(Host Family information is available HERE)
The International Pre-Orientation Program (IPOP) is held in August, just prior to New Student Orientation. New international students and language assistants are required to attend, and US students living abroad are also invited. Fall 2012 participants will arrive on August 20 and 21, and can move into their fall housing assignment to attend our program on August 22, 23, and 24th.
IPOP helps prepare participants for a successful transition to life and learning at Grinnell. They learn about a variety of regulatory issues that impact their stay. The program includes campus and community tours, shopping for items that don't 'pack well', time to open a bank account, etc. Students meet their Host Family, get to know Grinnell staff and faculty, and have a great time with new classmates and the IPOP Leadership Team!
Following IPOP, all new students (international and domestic) participate in New Student Orientation (NSO). NSO includes tutorial meetings, language placement tests, computer workshops, course registration, etc. This is a great time to become acquainted with one's academic advisor, hall/roommate(s) and Residence Life Coordinator (RLC).
* Global Nomads (sometimes called TCKs / Third Culture Kids) are individuals who have spent significant parts of their childhoods outside of their passport country - usually because of a parent's occupation. Global Nomad students are invited to participate fully in OISA programming, including IPOP and the Host Family Friendship Program.
