Gretchem Hola! My name is Gretchem Aikens. I am from Guadalajara, Mexico but I am also a U.S citizen. Although I have dual-citizenship, I lived in Mexico all my life before coming to Grinnell. I am a U.S. Global Nomad.
I always knew that I wanted to study at a college in the USA. I heard about Grinnell through a former classmate, and the more I learned about Grinnell, the more I liked it! Coming from a American School in Mexico, the liberal arts focus at Grinnell created a great transition for me. It has allowed me to explore different academic subjects and fields. Since my arrival to Grinnell I have decided to be a Political Science major. I was also able to expand my passion for foreign languages by starting to learn Chinese, while taking courses in history and economics.
I have also found a great variety of extracurricular activities and clubs that allow me to continue developing my interests and leadership skills. I am part of several organizations, which range from the International Student Organization to the Grinnell Model United Nations club. Although many things in Grinnell (like the weather) differ greatly from those back home, the variety of academic programs and a wonderful since of community have deeply enriched my college experience.
