I am Liting Cong, a sociology major and policy studies concentration, class of 2011, from Shanghai, China. My advisors are Prof. David Cook-Martin and Prof. Bill Ferguson, who (like many Grinnell professors) are among the most intelligent and wonderful people I've ever met.

Grinnell provides students an open and diverse social and academic environment to experience and learn. As an active member of the SGA, I was a Senator for OC(N)CO (in short, off-campus) Senator in 2008-9. Currently, I am in the United Kingdom studying on Grinnell-in-London, which started in 1970s. In November, I will be honored to intern for a member of the British Parliament. In addition, thanks to the generous fund of Davis Foundation, David Wang (Georgetown University) and I were able to gain first hand experience in organizing a legal aid program--Project LAMPS--in Shanghai in the summer 2009. Thirty-five law school students volunteered to provide free legal consultation and lectures to 1000 migrant workers. This project received wide welcome and enthusiastic support from district government, media, legal scholars and lawyers. Grinnell College has participated in Davis Foundation 100 Projects for Peace since its start in 2007.

No matter what subject one chooses, no matter where you came from, there is always good support for Grinnell students - on academic and life matters.
