Shrish Namaste and hello! My name is Shrish Pokhrel-Willett and I have come to Grinnell from quite an interesting background. My mom is Nepali, my dad is British, and I was born in Massachusetts. I spent the first decade of my life moving around from Massachusetts, to Tanzania, to Virginia, to Colorado, and coincidentally, Iowa. Due to my mom's work, our family moved to Kathmandu, Nepal where I completed middle and high school. My school in Nepal had only 250 students from pre-school to 12th grade, yet represented over 40 different countries.
When choosing a college in the U.S., I was (and still am) impressed by the diversity at Grinnell - a soothingly familiar atmosphere to my high school. Entering college can be daunting, but the community here is very welcoming. The opportunities here never cease to amaze me. A group of us who played volleyball in high school, for example, realized that there was no men's volleyball team. We requested gym space, contacted regional tournament directors, and before we knew it we were at our first of many school sponsored tournaments! This is just one example of Grinnell's emphasis on creating an environment with 'No Limits.' At Grinnell, you can make it happen.
