The Grinnell College Libraries are your gateway to the changing world of texts, images, and sound. The library staff is a dedicated, enthusiastic team focused on providing you with the information and services you need as you pursue your college education. Librarians are knowledgeable about the variety of information formats and resources, and are eager to work with you to locate the best materials for your research. Librarians offer a variety of opportunities for consultation: drop-in assistance from a reference librarian, individualized "library lab" appointments, and in-class instruction. . There is no need to wait until you encounter a roadblock when you can start your research by working with a reference librarian. The Libraries' online catalog describes all of the books, journals, videos, recordings, scores, reserve readings, electronic books, Internet resources, and other materials in Burling and Kistle Libraries, the Curriculum Library, and the AV Center. The catalog offers many search options and includes the ability to e-mail references to yourself. The catalog is available on the World Wide Web at http://cat.lib.grin.edu/.
The Grinnell College Libraries' collections are selected to support the curriculum of the College and the basic research needs of the faculty. Burling Library houses most of the libraries' collections in the humanities and social sciences, including the Listening Room and the Black Library, Latino Collection, Iowa Room, and other special collections. The Kistle Science Library contains books, journals, and other materials in the science disciplines, and the Curriculum Library in Steiner Hall is the resource center for the education program. Materials not available in our collections may be borrowed from another library through interlibrary loan. You will find PC and Mac computers, printers, digital scanners, and photocopiers in Burling and Kistle Libraries. An Aladdin personal reader is available for people with visual impairment.
