The Stonewall Resource Center's (SRC) primary focus is to be the vehicle through which to raise awareness and facilitate education on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual and intersex (LGBTQQAI) issues on campus. The SRC is a safe, confidential and comfortable environment for LGBTQQAI students, faculty, staff and their allies to come together as a community.
The administrative office of the SRC is located on the second floor of the Joe Rosenfield '25 Center, which is staffed by a student manager, program coordinator, program coordinator associate and volunteers. The SRC Library is located in the Younker Hall lounge, known as Younker Pit. The library has over 1,000 books, magazines and videos, and is staffed by a library coordinator and volunteers. The SRC also provides support to a variety of LGBTQQAI student organizations. Active organizations during the previous year include: Bifocal, Queer People of Color (QPOC), Queer Rainbow Super Team (QRST), and Stonewall Coalition (StoneCo). For more information on active student groups, please see the SRC website.
The Stonewall Resource Center (SRC) was originally established at Grinnell College as the Human/Gay Resource Center on October 31, 1986. The center's purpose was to raise awareness of human development and gay, lesbian and bisexual issues. In 1991, the SRC Advisory Board changed the center's name to the SRC in honor of the Stonewall riots in Greenwich Village, New York, which is considered the advent of the contemporary sexual identity rights movement. The SRC's primary mission began to focus solely on the lesbian, gay and bisexual campus community.
