The Student Government Association, known as SGA on campus, provides a voice for student opinion and a link between the Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, and students. SGA is made up of an elected president and two vice-presidents, the Cabinet officers, and Joint Board. Joint Board is composed of senators elected at the beginning of each semester.

SGA also provides student programming and services, including weekend films and concerts, funding for student groups and programs, blood drives, used book sales and a myriad of other activities.

The SGA offices are located on the second floor of the Joe Rosenfield '25 Center. Individual office hours for SGA Cabinet members are posted on their doors or can be obtained by checking the SGA web page athttp://www.grinnell.edu/sga. The SGA bulletin board outside of the SGA office and the SGA web page also contain Joint Board minutes and other matters of interest.

Joint Board meetings are held weekly in the Joe Rosenfield '25 Center. All students, faculty and administrators are welcome to attend.

ALL-CAMPUS EVENTS COMMITTEE

The SGA All-Campus Events Committee (ACE) helps in the planning and scheduling of student proposed all-campus events. ACE helps coordinate the time, date, and location of these events. This committee meets regularly to discuss and review all-campus event budgets and proposals. Contact the ACE Coordinator or Student Affairs for meeting times or questions about proposal forms and procedures. These offices are located on the second and third floors respectively in the Joe Rosenfield '25 Center. See Scheduling Events, page 126 and Events in Residence Halls and Houses, page 89 for more event information.

FILMS AND CONCERTS

Student sponsored films and concerts on campus are handled through the SGA film and concert chairs respectively. Student groups wishing to book concerts or films for programming purposes should check with the film and/or concert chair for contract information.

No more than three SGA-funded outdoor concerts can be held each semester. All outdoor concerts and parties with amplified music must be approved by ACE, which determines whether the amplification is such that it should fall under the three-concert limitation. Outdoor concerts and parties with amplified music can only be held on a weekend and run no later than 10:00 p.m. No more than one day will be used on a single weekend for outdoor concerts or outdoor parties with amplified music. Before concerts or parties with amplified music, the person in charge of the event must organize the leafleting of the neighbors in the four blocks surrounding the College to inform them of the time and place of the concert and to ask for their cooperation. Performing artists and amplified sound are limited to 85 decibels. Concerts held before 4:15 p.m. in areas that affect classes must have the permission of the Dean of the College.

PUBLICATIONS AND RADIO

Student staffs administer the Scarlet and Black, the weekly campus newspaper, and KDIC-FM, 88.5, the campus radio station, with the support of a faculty or staff adviser. The Student Publications and Radio Committee (SPARC), composed of faculty, students, and ex officio members, functions in an advisory capacity and has jurisdiction over all student publications and the radio station.

SEPCS AND STUDENT CURRICULUM COUNCIL

The student government organizations with jurisdiction in academic areas are the Student Educational Policy Committees and the Student Curriculum Council.

In each department, student majors elect a Student Educational Policy Committee that assists in the faculty hiring and review process and in planning extracurricular activities, such as visiting lecturers and student colloquia.

Each departmental committee elects a representative to the Student Curriculum Council, which meets to discuss matters of general curricular interest. The chair and three members of this council are members of the College's Curriculum Committee, which considers proposals for new courses, changes in majors, graduation requirements, and similar curricular matters.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Registered student organizations include, but are not limited to, special interest groups, service organizations, religious groups, sports club teams, special event planning committees, support groups, political organizations, and recreation clubs. Anyone interested in forming a campus organization should register the organization with the SGA Student Services Coordinator. All registered student organizations may apply for SGA funding and organizational assistance. They may also be eligible for a group computer account, pending approval by Information Technology Services (ITS). For a complete list of current student organizations, please contact SGA.
