A lonely Vietnam war veteran remembers his old friend who died during the
Vietnam war. He recalls all the bad and horrified images of the war. My
intention in this film was not standing on which side, I am just opposing the
war, and feeling for
innocence people who died in this horrible war.
Vu Tran - Director
I was born in Vietnam in July 30th 1981. I lived there until 4th grade then my
parent decided to find a better place for me and my little brother. In late
June of 1991, a fishing boat carried more than 100 souls, including my family
of four, away
from the mainland of Vietnam toward the South China Sea. I was nine at the
time and did not know where we were going through the darkness of the sea.
After seven days and six nights on the sea. We arrived to Hong Kong, and we
spent three years in
Hong Kong detention camp. I did not have schooling for during that time.
Luckily, we made it to the United States, where my aunt awaited us in Apple
Valley, Minnesota, a world apart from Vietnam. I remember my frustration and
tears when I started
school two months later, unable to speak a word of English, but thanks to all
of my dedicated teacher, friends and my own determination, patience, and hard
work, I finally graduated from high school and go to college to become a
filmmaker. I am a
full time student and also volunteer to work with kids at my former middle
school.
