****** Wearing your armband (or getting one)*******
If you've got an armband ... definitely wear it on Wednesday. But, if you really want to get into the spirit of this Week on War wear it all week long (I'll be doing it ;)
Some more info from Armband Queen, Rachel Miller [millerra]
@@@@@@ one: anybody that has requested an armband will get them in the mail tomorrow, with extras to give to anyone they know who wants one.
two: if you need an armband, email me (make sure you give me your p.o. box).
three: i talked to some people at the library and they agreed to let us put some armbands on the desk. so on wednesday if anybody asks "hey, where can i get one of those neat-o armbands?" tell them "why, on the left side of circulation desk in the library".
four: freedom of expression. a high school student in michigan was recently sent home from school for wearing an anti-war shirt which depicted president bush and the words "International Terrorist". let's not forget that our right to voice or display our political beliefs, even on school grounds, was defended in the 1969 Supreme Court case Tinker v. the School Board of Des Moines.
full story: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/02/26/education/26SHIR.html
five: with further regards to Vietnam era armbands: our armbands are white, not black. that decision was made the last time we did this because we'd like the armbands to represent the hope that we WON'T go to war, rather than a mourning of the fact that we are at war.

********* Anti-War at the Oscars ******** Simply For Peace
GOALS 1) To have Academy Awards Ceremony attendees show support for the Global Peace movement by dressing 'simply', in every-day clothing (i.e., jeans, t-shirts with antiwar or peace messages, tennies) on March 23, 2003.
2) To have speakers at the Academy Awards ceremonies make make brief antiwar statements (i.e., "Peace", "No War On Iraq", "Consider the Children").
3) To conduct an Antiwar Demonstration before, during and after the Academy Awards ceremonies at the corner of Hollywood and Highland Center, Hollywood, CA.
How can you, this email recipient, assist with this Simply For Peace plan? Contact needs to be made with any people of media influence. Are you someone who can help?
With the threat of global nuclear war, chemical and biological warfare, and world leaders hellbent on war, it is absolutely crucial that we, in the antiwar movement, pool our resources together. In Unity There Is Strength! In Unity We Will Succeed!
In Unity We Will Make A Difference! Peace
