****** Potluck Dinner for Chris Gaunt - Saturday 6 PM *******
I have been asked to stress that it is important to contact Prof. Kent McClelland [mcclel] if you think you will be able attending. He is trying to gauge how many people will be coming ahead of time. Also, don't forget that your cooking prowess, while not a pre-requisite, is always much appreciated ;)
A Potluck with a Purpose
Come enjoy good food, a good time, and an opportunity to support Chris Gaunt. Chris works at Burling Library and is in jail in Georgia (US) as a result of her political protest activities. If you can bring a dish to the meal, that would be great, but please come even without food. There is no formal ticket price but donations to help defray Chris's expenses will be accepted at the potluck.
It would be helpful to have an idea about how many people might attend. If you think you are likely to attend, or to offer your help in any other way, contact Kent McClelland: mcclel@grinnell.edu, 269-3134, 236-7002.
6:00 PM March 8
At the Schrift residence -- 1032 Chatterton St. (just east of campus, the light blue house on the corner of 6th Ave. and Chatterton St.)

******* Details on Die-In ******** On WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, at NOON, in front of the bookstore...
There will be a die-in demonstrating Grinnell's opposition to war with Iraq. For five minutes, we will lay on the ground, symbolizing a fraction of the people who will be traumatized and killed if we go to war.
This will be a media event...we will create a striking image to show the U.S. government that we will not stand back quietly as we enter an unjust war.
Pictures and press releases will be sent out for state and national media coverage. This is part of a national student day of action against the impending war.
Lets come together as a community and Stop This War.
PLEASE COME...Please bring friends...Please forward this to everyone you
know...
Peace, Jill Peteson [pertersoj], Barbi Rodriguez [rodrigub], Ellen Gallagher [gallaghe]

********* Art from Palestine and Iraq in Cedar Rapids in March ******** Opening Mar 7 ART ACROSS BORDERS: WORKS FROM PALESTINE AND IRAQ CSPS, 1103 Third St SE, Cedar Rapids Reception Sun Mar 9, 3-6 pm
Some 50 artists are featured in ART ACROSS BORDERS, a unique and timely exhibit opening this week at CSPS.
The show provides a rare glimpse of the contemporary art scene in Palestine and Iraq. Included are more than 70 pieces of contemporary painting, graphics and textile art. The works range from imposing paintings created by the pioneers of the modern Iraqi art movement, to drawings done by a teenager living in a refugee camp in Gaza.
This remarkable exhibit was organized by the Babylon Art and Cultural Center in Minneapolis, where it had its much-talked-about debut showing in Feb. Cedar Rapids is the second stop on what's expected to be an international tour.
An opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, Mar 9, from 3 to 6 pm. Open to the public, the reception features Arabic food and music.
The exhibit will continue through Sun Mar 30, open 11 am to 6 pm, Wed through Sun. A number of special events will take place in conjunction with the exhibit. For current information watch our Web site.
