*** Tabling for prospies @ Harris *****
Shouldn't we make some impression on prospective students? If you can sacrifice one hour (or three) over the next three Fridays to
sit at a table in Harris from 11:30-12:30 and talk about the group with
prospies, you would be doing our group and Grinnell a great service.
(These really are critical affairs)
Seriously, if you can dedicate one Friday 11:30-12:30 (4/4, 4/11, or
4/18) to tabling contact Eli Zigas [zigaseli]

********* University of IA Peace Camp ********* Campaign Against War, the anti-war group on U of IA's campus, has set up
a "peace camp". It is literally a collection of tents set up on the
campus that have a continual presence of people. The camp is a place to
discuss the war, interact with visitors, and generally remain a
presence. The Peace camp is always looking for people to join them, if
only for a little bit.
Austin Wells [wellsa] will be making occasional trips to the camp. If
you'd like to go contact him.

What follows is an update from one of the organizer's of the camp, Joe
Mirabella :
The morale of the camp is at an all time high. The nice weather has =
allowed us to actually enjoy what we're doing. Last night was =
relatively quiet. We did get egged, though. Two eggs hit camp. One =
made contact with the edge of my tent and one hit Anjali's arm. (I =
can't help but giggle about it though). People who were angry with us =
in the beginning of the week have been returning as friends. New =
campers arrive daily. We're running low on supplies, though. The food
= donations at the beginning of the week were excellent, but the food is
= almost gone. We went through several cases of water in just one day.
= If you don't have time to cook or buy water, feel free to drop a =
donation in the can located at the camp.=20
We're working on scheduling teach-ins to be held everyday from Noon-1pm
= at the camp. Other activities will be organized as well. We're
looking = forward to meeting the reporters who will be spending the
weekend at the = camp. One is from the DI and one is from the Des
Moines Register. = Additionally, I'm making a documentary about the
entire experience that = will be finished and available on-line at the
end of the semester.=20
Thanks so much for all your help. Keep writing letters to the =
newspapers in our support, keep bringing donations, and please join us =
for some camping. It is really a lot of fun!
Peace,
Joe
********** Join Moveon.org's media corps **************** Dear MoveOn member,
Our country is at war, and many of us continue to feel grief and anger
that this terrible conflict is being fought on our behalf. It's a hard
time.
It's also a critical time for us to stay involved. As we report below,
together we've had some amazing successes over the last month, both
domestically and in opposition to this war. We need to keep this
momentum building. As a next step, please consider joining MoveOn's
Media Corps -- a group of committed online activists who will keep the
media accountable. Help make sure that our news media report the war
the way it happens, not the way the Bush Administration wishes it would
happen.

********** Movie (Promises) on campus this week ******** [editor's note : this may be a controversial posting to some because it
is more focused on Israel/Palestine than on Iraq. I would like to hear
comments on whether people feel it appropriate to place this in the
update... I do so with some reservations]
From Tony Pham, Film's Chair:
I thought your group might be interested in knowing that "Promises," an Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary this year, will be screening
in Harris this Saturday at 4:30 and 7:30 PM (and also on Sunday afternoon
at 1:30 PM). The film tells the story of Palestinian and Jewish
children living in Jerusalem today. It does a good job about showing
all sides of the issue and fits right in with what you all are trying to
do in terms of educating people about the realities of war.
Take Care,
Tony

PROMISES follows the journey of one of the filmmakers Israeli-American
B.Z. Goldberg. He travels to Palestinian communities and settlements in
the West Bank -places he had never ventured before-and to the familiar
neighborhoods of Jerusalem. He meets seven Palestinian and Israeli
children between the ages of nine and thirteen. PROMISES explores the
Middle East conflict through their eyes. The film was shot between
1995-2000. Running time, 106 minutes. Arabic, Hebrew and English
dialogue with English subtitles.
