************** Travel Locally, Schmooze Globally *********
From Jon Meier, a professor at IA State
I am with Time For Peace here in Ames, and I have been organizing an Outreach Team -- a group of people who travel from small town to small town, letting people in these towns know that there ARE people opposed to the war. It seems that, often, small town people (and I was one of them) go along with what their government tells them because they don't know how to do anything else. So this team shows them that there is another way.

If you're interested they are going around on Nov. 2nd (which is the day of a protest) but will continue after that. Contact Jon if you're interested.

************** Peace and Coffee in Des Moines ********************
PeaceTime is an informal gathering at Java Joes Coffeehouse in Des Moines --the first and third Sunday of every month-- starting at 7:00 pm. Organizers invite you to "Join us to talk about the issues, network or just socialize." Sunday, Oct. 20 the Green candidate for governor -- Jay Robinson -- will participate in the dialogue. Come and enjoy, share, and learn. Contact: peacetimedm@aol.com
************ Symbolic Protest in Grinnell ************
Several individuals have expressed interest in symbolic protest of the war in Iraq. One option would be to wear white armbands that read "Not In Our Name."
A national campaign with this slogan at their name has written a "Pledge of Resistance." See this pledge at notinourname.net: just click on "Pledge of Resistance" on the side bar. If you are interesed in other information on this group check out the Democracy Now archives. Also if anyone knows where to get white cloth (besides Walmart) please let me know.
Send questions/comments/suggestions to : Shannon Heffernan [hefferna]
