******************* We've got a PLAN ************************ Start fingering [antiwar] (include the brackets). Can't say that even I fully understand what plans are, but if you do ... check it out.
Questions about the Plan - contact Josh Rosenbluh [rosenblu]
************** "Day After" Event and Direct Action planning ********* An update on the "Day After" idea and also Direct Action planning
Shannon Heffernan has been discussing with other Iowa anti-warrers what might be done the "day after" things begin. It has been decided that "things begin" when the bombs start dropping, or military action occurs outside the "No-Fly" zone. When this occurs, that same night at 10 PM, vigil type actions will occur simultaneously across Iowa. (Mostly in Des Moines and Iowa City) Grinnell will show up in Des Moines.
That is what has been decided. The details are being worked out. We will need help planning logistics for this including transportation, communication, and media relations.
Separately there has been strong support for a "Direct Action" not necessarily the day after. This would be louder, more blatant, and make a bolder statement about opposition to the war. If you are interested in planning a direct action: A group is meeting at Art House, Sat. @ 9:30 AM, before the march, to discuss possibilities. This will then be brought up to groups around Iowa.
Questions or comments about either the "day after" event or the direct action, contact Shannon [hefferna].
********** Rosenfield Speaker on Iraq Sanctions Nov 8th ****************
Nov.6th - 8 PM - South Lounge @@ Note: For those of you at the meeting last night, note the date change]
Ambassador Clovis Maksoud, "Difficult Dilemmas in Dealing with Iraq: Moving from Sanctions Toward War?" Ambassador Maksoud is Lebanese and was the Arab League Ambassador to the UN until Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990. He will just be returning to the states from a trip to the Middle East.
Questions... contact Prof. Wayne Moyer [moyer]
************ Elections are Coming ... Elections are coming !!! ******** Do you know how your representative voted on the Authorization for Use of Force? How are you going to vote?
Attached is a list of tight races around the country (tight_elections.doc). If you know anyone who could vote in these races, get them to the polls.
Also attached is a general flyer put out by Moveon.org (regime.pdf). To editorialize a bit : IT'S GREAT ! Pass it along, put it up, VOTE.
****** Symbolic Protest needs your help ******** Others across Iowa have begun to wear black armbands throughout the day to let others know their opposition to the war. If you are interested in learning more about his and helping get some black cloth for Grinnell, please contact Shannon Heffernan [hefferna].
************** Fax the UN through TrueMajority **************** Send free faxes (link below) to the leaders of all five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council asking them to make sure that the inspectors have a real chance to do their job before President Bush is given approval to invade.
