******* Anti-War Alliance Decides on 3 Goals **********
Last night (Tues Nov 13th) those at the organizational meeting decided
on a number of goals that would help the group actively mobilize against
the war in Iraq. They could be categorized under three larger goals.
Those are:
1) Maintain visibility of the group for the campus and outside
2) Educate ourselves and the campus/public at-large
3) Be active in state and national anti-war networks
Within these broader goals fall many tactics (see next three section of
digest for current tactics) and sub goals. The goals are not set in
stone, however, for now all projects we hope to take on should fall
within these categories.
******** An Anti-War SGA Initiative *******
Laura Polstein is currently looking into created an SGA Student
Initiative about War in Iraq. Student initiatives are voted on by the
entire campus. We are looking to create an initiative that would state
the student body's opposition to the War in Iraq. The reason for trying
for the initiative is not only to succeed in having it pass, but also it
is a vehicle for initiating discussion, dialogue, and education. The
City Council of Washington DC passed a resolution and the University of
Iowa is looking to do it right now. And that's just to name two.
If you interested in helping out with this, contact Laura Polstein ASAP

*********** Film Fest and Letter Writing Shindig ********
What could be better than watching a movie, then writing a legislator or
news outlet? Seriously though, this is our biggest public event being
planned and could really engage lots of students. It also requires a
lot of leg work. HELP NEEDED.
If you want to help organize setting up the Film showing contact Sequoia
Nagamatsu [nagamats] or Zeke Hausfather [hausfath]
If you'd like to help work on setting up letter writing contact either:
Jenny Dale [dalejenn], John Bohman [bohmanjo], or Jessica Petertil
[Petertil]
********* Aid Packages to Iraqis with campus Quakers *****************
The Quaker group on campus has responded to a request by the Mennonite
Church to help produce aid packages to send to Iraq. These packages
include items such as toiletries and towels. While not directly related
to the U.S. Mobilization for War, this project addresses the issue of
the situation of the Iraqi people right now. (and they will CERTAINLY
need these packages if we do start a war) It was decided last night
that student could assist in this effort by raising money door-to-door,
talking to students about what we were doing, and by assembling the
packages.

************** Ideas discussed but not yet pursued *************
There were some other tactics brought up last night that were not taken
on. See attached list [MS Word format] for those ideas. If any strikes
your fancy, and you'd like to take it on, or add another to the list,
contact me.
