CARW's mission is to raise awareness about whiteness and white privilege and expand and contribute to a meaningful dialogue about race, racism and privilege on the Grinnell College campus and in the town of Grinnell. CARW recognizes that white people are not experts on racism, and will respect and support, as well as listen to and learn from individuals and groups on campus who may know better than we. All are welcome to participate in CARW with recognition of CARW's stated mission and goals. Although CARW focuses upon issues of white privilege and racism, we recognize the intersection of gender, sexual orientation, and class with racial privilege and racism, and strive to combat these forms of privilege in out daily lives and within our group.

Prejudice + the power of a system that collaborates with that prejudice = racism

White Privilege: A life-long accumulation of advantages/privileges received simply by being raced 'white' regardless of economic status, gender identity, and sexual orientation. The ease of living in a society that has been created by and for people who are raced 'white.' The comfort of existing in society without having to think about race or how it impacts your or others' daily interactions.
