Forum Computer Training Room Reservation and Use Policy
March 19, 2007
Prepared by CCL Steering CommitteeAppropriate Use
The Forum computer training room provides access to Windows PC and Macintosh computers in a traditional computer classroom setting. All of the college's common business and office applications are available on these computers, as are many special purpose applications. See the training room description athttp://www.grinnell.edu/its/ccl for a complete listing of the facility's resources. Contact a member of your IT Services desktop support or your Curricular Technology Specialist if you have questions about the resources in the training room.
The training room is available for use by Grinnell College faculty and staff to provide instruction which benefits from the use of a computer-equipped classroom.
The Forum computer training room is intended for workshops, short-term classes or ad hoc offerings. Although it may be used by faculty for individual class sessions, the training room is not intended for use as a classroom for an entire course.
Some computer training requires extended hours of access across multiple days. For example, IT Services occasionally coordinates regional Datatel training opportunities that require day-long use of a computer training facility for several consecutive days. Such offerings are appropriate uses of the Forum computer training room.
Access to the Forulm training room is gained through the IT Services Helpdesk workspace. The security of the Helpdesk space is a concern due to a variety of equipment held there, some of which is personally owned by faculty, staff and students. The schedule of availability for the training room may be altered to reflect security needs in the ITS Helpdesk space.
Normally, the training room will be available for Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Activities in the training room cannot be scheduled when the Helpdesk is not opened and staffed without the prior approval of IT Services.
Reservation Process: Requests to reserve the Forum computer training room should be submitted using the Office of Conference Operations and Events calendaring system, which is accessible online athttp://www.grinnell.edu/car/confops/calendar or by selecting the calendar link from the college homepage. You may also initiate a reservation request by calling the Office of Conferene Operations and Events at extension 3178. Reservation for use of the training room should be submitted at least two work days in advance of the reservation.
Opening and Closing the Training Room: The IT Services Telecommunications and Internal Support Team (TIS) is informed of reservation dates and times by the Office of Conference Operations and Events. A member of the TIS team will unlock the training room five minutes before the scheduled reservation start time or 8:00 AM, whichever is later. A member of the TIS team will lock the training room door five minutes after the scheduled reservation end time or 5:00 PM, whichever is earlier.
