Academic Support Services

Faculty Advisers

Your adviser is someone who will take an interest in you, listen to you as you share your personal goals, and help you plan a course of study. Your tutorial professor is your adviser until you declare a major (typically in your fourth semester). If you are a transfer student, and you have met the Tutorial requirement, you are assigned an adviser in the department in which you have expressed an interest. Once you choose a major or field of study, you will choose an adviser from the faculty in that academic department.

French

The French program explores the diverse literatures, identities, and cultures of the French-speaking world. All courses are taught in French, provide intensive work in oral and written expression, and are approached from an interdisciplinary perspective. Students may meet prestigious artists, intellectuals, and government figures hosted by the department.

Arabic

The Arabic program introduces students to Arabic language and culture. All courses are taught in Arabic and  provide intensive work in oral and written expression. The language curriculum can be complemented with courses on the Middle East and North Africa offered by departments such as History, Religious Studies, and Anthropology and with off-campus study program options.

Enhanced Interlibrary Loan Services

The Grinnell College Libraries upgraded our Interlibrary Loan software, making it easier for you to initiate and track Interlibrary Loan requests from your residence hall, home or office through the web. Beginning August 7, 2013, you will have the ability to track the status of your requests and view a history of your ILL information!  We  are pleased to bring our users this enhanced service! Please let us know if you have questions.

The Prairie

Grinnell sits in the middle of a vast and dynamic environment known as prairie. Tall grasses, flowering plants, deep root systems, soil, and fire comprise the ecosystem. The complex root system means that two-thirds of the prairie lives below ground, and that fire will destroy only the dead matter above ground. This ecosystem is responsible for creating the rich Iowa soil that agriculturalists have enjoyed for generations.
