Academic Support Services

Faculty Advisers

Your adviser is someone who will take an interest in you, listen to you as you share your personal goals, and help you plan a course of study. Your tutorial professor is your adviser until you declare a major (typically in your fourth semester). If you are a transfer student, and you have met the Tutorial requirement, you are assigned an adviser in the department in which you have expressed an interest. Once you choose a major or field of study, you will choose an adviser from the faculty in that academic department.

Enhanced Interlibrary Loan Services

The Grinnell College Libraries upgraded our Interlibrary Loan software, making it easier for you to initiate and track Interlibrary Loan requests from your residence hall, home or office through the web. Beginning August 7, 2013, you will have the ability to track the status of your requests and view a history of your ILL information!  We  are pleased to bring our users this enhanced service! Please let us know if you have questions.

Near Grinnell

The Grinnell community has no borders. Everything from the curriculum to the day-to-day conversation in the residence halls is open-ended in context and consideration.

For those who want to add geographic dimension to that intellectual latitude, the cities of Des Moines and Iowa City are just an hour away, and one can be in Chicago, Minneapolis, or Kansas City in less than five hours. But for most students, the 120-acre campus and the town of Grinnell provide more than enough opportunities for exploration and entertainment.

The Prairie

Grinnell sits in the middle of a vast and dynamic environment known as prairie. Tall grasses, flowering plants, deep root systems, soil, and fire comprise the ecosystem. The complex root system means that two-thirds of the prairie lives below ground, and that fire will destroy only the dead matter above ground. This ecosystem is responsible for creating the rich Iowa soil that agriculturalists have enjoyed for generations.

Kate Walker Selected as Vice President of Finance and Treasurer of the College

President Raynard Kington is pleased to announce that Kate Walker will be the next vice president of finance and treasurer of Grinnell College. Walker is currently the assistant vice president of finance for Macalester College, and she will begin work at Grinnell on October 21, 2013.

Walker will succeed Grinnell Vice President and Treasurer Karen Voss, who has for some time been planning her retirement. Voss will assist with the orientation and transition process.
