Grinnell’s IRB reviews proposed research projects that use human research participants. Any faculty, staff, or student conducting research on humans, even with minimal risk, needs to submit a proposal of the research project to the IRB. Electronic submission of proposals is expected; the form and well-written project description are emailed to irb[at]grinnell[dot]edu. Please allow up to 10 days for a new submission to be reviewed and a decision rendered.

Student majors within the program elect a Student Educational Policy Committee (SEPC) every year that assists in the faculty hiring and review process and in planning extracurricular activities, such as visiting lecturers and student colloquia.

The Teacher Advisory Committee of local educators meets biannually and reports to the state of Iowa. It enhances the Grinnell College Education Program's communication and cooperation with area schools to provide an excellent pre-service teaching education for Grinnell students, advises faculty on student teaching evaluations, and makes suggestions about enhancing Grinnell’s curriculum. Members serve a two-year term; membership terms are staggered to provide some continuity of membership.
We move closer to the end of our strategic planning, endeavoring to meet our June deadline for producing the text of a plan. The many ideas generated will need to be implemented, and as we go forward we will need to know what succeeds. What succeeds for the College and what succeeds for the individual student/graduate are two facets of the same question, but they are not identical. The calibration of institutional success in realizing the strategic plan will demand data, because our questions, to borrow a phrase from an old philosopher, will be infected with quantity.
