Grinnell well-represented in ITA men's tennis rankings

The Grinnell College men’s tennis team is well-represented in the latest NCAA Division III Central Region rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

As a team, the Pioneers are ranked 15th in the region. Washington University holds down the top spot.

Juan Carlos Perez ’11 (pictured) is ranked both in singles and doubles. He is eighth in the region in singles and 14th in doubles with Dmitriy Glumov ’12.
 
 

Grinnell's Montgomery is MWC Track Performer of the Week

Grinnell College’s David Montgomery has been named the Midwest Conference Men’s Track Performer of the Week.

Montgomery, who is from Elmhurst, Ill. (York HS), had a stellar weekend at the Buena Vista Challenge in Storm Lake, Iowa, taking second in both the mile (4 minutes, 25 seconds) and 3000-meter run (8:49.23). Both are top times in the Midwest Conference this season.

The Women’s Track Performer of the Week is Emily Schudrowitz of St. Norbert College, while the Field Performer is Krystal Sterling of Carroll University.
 

Pioneer women's cross country team back on top in the MWC

The Grinnell College women's cross country team is back on top in the Midwest Conference.

The Pioneers, who had won four league titles in a row before surrendering the crown last year, emerged victorious at the 2009 MWC Championships Saturday at Rock Cut State Park in Loves Park, Ill. It was Grinnell's 16th league title in the program's history.

The Pioneers scored 62 points, nine better than runner-up Carroll University and 11 better than third-place Monmouth College.

The Grinnell College football team announced its award winners for the 2009 campaign.

Marquis Bradley '11 won the Dick Ullrich '33 Award for the top offensive or defensive backfield performer, Mike Tricoli '10 earned the Abe Rosenbloom '34 Award for top offensive or defensive lineman and Ryan Boehm '10 was named the special teams most valuable player.

Grinnell soccer teams earn national academic honors

Grinnell College was one of 99 institutions to have both its men's and women's soccer programs earn the Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

A total of 576 teams earned the award, 333 women's squads and 143 on the men's side. Squads must have a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher to be honored.

The Grinnell women are coached by Heather Benning and the men by Brian Jaworski. \

Reich named to Academic All-District First Team; Jamison is Second-Team selection

 Grinnell College's Henry Reich '09 has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 7 Men's Track and Field/Cross Country First Team, while Thomas Jamison '09 was a Second-Team selection.

By being named to the First Team, Reich is now in the running to be an NCAA Academic All-American. That team will be named in the near future.
