State Rep. Scott Raecker, a Grinnell alumnus, has introduced a bill in the Iowa Legislature to sell a painting, Jackson Pollock's "Mural," owned by the University of Iowa Museum of Art in order to create a fund to pay for scholarships for art students. For more on the original story see:

Television is a funny medium. It brings us together through shared viewing experiences, and it isolates us in a pool of light in a darkened room.  We look to the ubiquitous box for information, forgetting that what we see is produced and edited to fit a format. What we receive is someone’s creation.

Hong Kong Adventures

For the last two days, we have been hosted royally in Hong Kong by friends and colleagues. They have given us glimpses of Hong Kong we would likely never have found on our own.  And they have shared their friendship which is always welcome when traveling.

Internship Guidelines Students at Grinnell College may participate in a range of internship opportunities both during the academic year and in the summer. Summer internships are available throughout the world with options for variable credit and funding for first-, second- and third-year students. Fourth-year students may only apply for academic year internships. Many summer internships receive Grinnell College funding through one of three categories:  GRINNELLLINK (internships arranged by Grinnell College Alumni) and Grant or Endowed Programs.

As my parents helped me unload the station wagon and carry my belongings up four flights of stairs on that hot afternoon in late August, the realization that this was the place where I would spend the next four years only added to my excessive perspiration. College. I was about to embark on the adventure of roommates, late night cramming, and defining myself.

I never expected it to be a one-year stint.
