Actor Emily Bergl ’97 — LIVE!

Emily Bergl ’97 may be Hollywood’s most famous Grinnellian actor of her generation. Perhaps best known as Annie O’Donnell in the television show Men in Trees, Beth Young in Desperate Housewives, and Tammy Bryant in the drama series Southland, she’s also acted in movies and on stage and made guest appearances on many popular TV series.

Award winners span the globe

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners of national scholarships, fellowships and grants! Grinnellians secured three Watson fellowships, a Davis Project for Peace award, two Barry Goldwater scholarships, and seven Fulbright grants, for a total of 13 awards. These winners continue the long-standing tradition of Grinnell students securing prestigious awards to support their studies.

College initiates year-long apprentice program with local nonprofits

With the start of the new academic year, Grinnell College has launched a program designed to help the college, its students, local nonprofit organizations and the entire community. Created by Monica Chavez-Silva through the Office of Community Enhancement and Engagement in cooperation with numerous other college offices, the program has chosen six apprentices interested in learning nonprofit management and placed them with six nonprofit organizations in paid positions lasting a year. Five of the organizations are Imagine Grinnell, the Claude W.

It's a Small World, After All

On Founder's Day, June 10, Grinnellians worldwide sported their Grinnell gear. They also shared their small world stories. Here is a sampling:

A year after graduation, I was at the Fasching (Mardi Gras) parade in Munich, Germany, and ran into a fellow graduate, Alice Sims-Gunzenhauser '74. Six weeks later I ran into her again on a street in Copenhagen. We Grinnellians get around! -Elise Kolbjornsen Anton '75
